What’s Cookin’?

Whew! Things have been going in so many directions lately, I don't even know where to start. That being said, I'm finally ready to start sharing over the next few weeks. Last week things came to a bit of a screeching halt when we were hit with a rounds of the flu. We haven't had that happen since G was in elementary school (thankfully!) Putting it mildly, I was less-than-useless. However, I have been working on a freebie to share! It was surprising how being out of the kitchen for a week really made me miss it. Hubbs has a birthday coming up soon and he's really earned an extra special dinner. So, I've been scouring my cookbooks and cooking magazines looking for ideas. May I just say, have you seen the Southern Living 50th anniversary edition? If you cook anything, ever, you have to grab a copy. (I'm dying to give the Lane Cake a try!)

Sweet, Sweet Sunshine!

Ugh! Are you as tired of these dark, overcast, dreary days as I am? Finally this morning it seems the sun is trying to peak through a bit. I hope it’s stopping by for a visit in your neighborhood as well. (Don’t forget to download a little bit of printable sunshine before you go!)   […]

Quick Fix!

This past Christmas I upgraded my little hand mixer to a stand mixer (yipee!!) and, as much I love it, I had no idea how crazy heavy it would be.  So far, I’ve been using it once or twice a week so until that changes, it will stay on top of the counter. Since it’s […]

Our local farmer’s market opened this week! And around here that means that warm weather is officially here to stay for a while.  I never really shopped at farmer’s markets too much until I moved out this way and now I really don’t know how I survived without one. Ours is owned and run by […]

The last two weeks I've been spending a lot of time in the garden getting things spruced up, adding mulch and fertilizer, checking to see who made through the winter and adding in some "annual" color. Stop by and get some inspiration to get your garden going this year!!

Rustic Window Mirror

Last summer I was poking around my local Re-Store and found a fantastic pile of used windows for $5 each! (If you are looking for used building materials, etc. try your local Re-Store, they are a great resource.) I really didn't know what I would do with them but I grabbed 3 since I knew I'd never find them like that when I did have a project in mind. When I started thinking about doing some rehab on our guest room I found just the perfect project for one of them. I wanted to have a large piece to center over the bed that I could add pictures and other items as I collected them. So I turned the window into a rustic-looking mirror. It's not meant to be so clear that you can do your make-up just a reflective surface to add some character and a bit more light to the room. (click over for more info . . . )

I’m so excited to share my side table rescue with you. I saved this little cutie from a local thrift store. When I found her she was quite sad, covered in layers of random paint, rust, and heaps of nasty grime. (Blech!) She was a steal at $5 and I’ve been on the lookout for a little table just like this for our living room. Pop on over and see her amazing transformation! Not to mention, a great way to smooth out those awful pits and dings in old metal furniture . . .

Hello friend, I hope you’ve been well. If you have a minute, grab a cup of coffee and let’s have a chat.     It’s been roughly a year since I last posted. (As a matter of fact, last Friday was one year exactly.) Sometimes life takes priority and you have to step away from […]

Over the past year of not blogging, I’ve actually picked up new followers (thank you for joining in!) so, to kick things off, I thought I’d share a round up of past posts/projects that were particularly popular. As well as some that somehow slid under the radar. (Let’s see if we can do something about […]

Kitchen Luxuries You Shouldn’t Live Without

(Don't forget to stop by and pick up your freebie at the end of the post!) Do you remember when you were first outfitting your very first kitchen? Back when you were thrilled to have enough pots and pans to put together an entire meal for more than one person. And then, the absolute satisfaction when you felt like you finally had everything you might need to cook and bake just the way you wanted to. Then a few years later, you found a fancy new recipe that were just dying to make for a special dinner but you had to buy a special pan, or tool. And next you knew you had a collection of odd kitchen tools so large you needed a new cabinet just to keep everything. At that point you put on the brakes and decided, right then and there, that it's time for some will power and if you don't have it, you don't need it. Right? Maybe, but I've found these simple kitchen tools a bit of a luxury that I'm thrilled to have on hand. I know they are not absolutely necessary but love having these on hand.
